Very easy install. Replaced an old Rain Bird controller with this and mounted it on an outside wall. Looks slick and easy to see the screen. The screen on the mounted unit updates quickly to match the phone app. Outside controller is helpful in case someone needs to work on your sprinkler system, you don't need to hand over your phone, it can be controlled from the unit. Has more connectivity options in the event more sprinkler zones are added to your yard. Bought a second unit for another house that had 9 zones, just bought the 3 zone expanders and plugged them in. Very simple set up.
Works great and is in good shape. The app works pretty well.
Easy installation and easy to program for my home irrigation system. Works as it should, adjusts itself for varying weather conditions.
This sprinkler controller is typical Hunter quality. We have had a Pro-HC controller for nearly 20 years and never had an issue with it. It's still going strong, but we recently added this HPC400 in another location. Set up is relatively straightforward and programming using the Hydrawise app is easy. So why 4 stars instead of 5? The instructions that come with the unit are for three different controllers plus an add-on and in 5 different languages all in the same step. Very confusing. It took scanning a small QR code and finding a small detail in one illustration to make sure we had the sprinkler wiring correct. Note: the COM connection below the sensor connections is the common for the sprinkler valves. I still highly recommend this timer. It can be mounted outdoors and is lockable if security is an issue.
This is my second Hunter WIFI sprinkler timer. It's a breeze to program vs most timers with dials & switches and can be controlled with a simple app virtually anywhere. It monitors nearby weather stations and can assist in conserving water.
I upgraded a 3-zone 2000s era Orbit controller with this product. I have installed Hunter controllers for two other locations over the years. I am also experienced with Rain Bird and Orbit but only with locally operated controllers. I have always been happy with Hunter products and two locally-owned nurseries also recommend Hunter. The physical installation was easy, inside a garage: yes I could have used an indoor unit but this waterproof box looks and feels better. While I have not used competitors' apps, the Hydrawise app is excellent. In looking over the competition I don't see anything where Hydrawise falls short. While I am just a handyman and not an irrigation contractor I see why the pros recommend Hunter. The Amazon merchant Sprinkler Parts Warehouse did a fine job fulfilling the order and the package included some helpful last-minute product updates. Next project is to upgrade a six-zone front yard plus a six-zone back yard into one Hunter HPC controller.
This controller has completely transformed how I manage my irrigation system. Being able to control everything from anywhere in the world is not just convenient its incredibly powerful. Whether Im at home or traveling, I can monitor, adjust, and fine-tune my system right from my phone. One of the biggest advantages is that Ive been able to give my landscaper access as well. That means adjustments can be made in real time without back-and-forth calls or guesswork. Its streamlined communication and made maintenance far more efficient. The app is intuitive and easy to use, even if youre not particularly tech-savvy. Scheduling, zone control, and adjustments are all straightforward. Plus, the smart features like weather-based adjustments help prevent overwatering and save money on water bills.Installation was smooth, and once its set up, it really just works. Reliable, flexible, and incredibly convenient. If youre looking to modernize your irrigation system and want full control at your fingertips, this is absolutely worth it. A true game-changer.
This might seem a bit expensive but I swear to you it is worth every penny. Very simple to wire, easy to connect, and the app is great.
Easy to install (if the existing wiring is present) and easy to program and use.Big improvement over the old timer box.
Took 25 min to install and makes everything easy for my system. Can control from my phone anywhere and the smart features are great
This is the ultimate upgrade in sprinkler technology. No more standing in front of your controller to turn on an area and running around the house try to see if the area you turned on is actually working. This was a super easy upgrade for me, I literally just popped the faceplate off of my existing one and installed this with a single ribbon cable! Theres a completely free app that lets you connect to it through your phone, you name your areas, and you can setup all kinds of schedules, and get insights to how much water youve used recently in comparison to previous weeks. It looks really good in the app and the touch screen works great as well. It has built in prediction with rain and heavy sun to accurately detect when to water less or more. Once you get this you wont be going back!It was so good, I bought a second one just to give to my neighbor as payback for a favor!
Works well but it will disconnect from wifi
Only had it for a day so can't say too much yet but programming watering programs is super easy..Customer support is non existent. You can chat with A.I.or refer to documentation on line..I have one simple question and there is no answer anywhere. Will revisit review after more use but the programming through the app is a breeze.
Must have for any home with a sprinkler system. This has saved me hundreds of dollars in water bills and I've also installed it at my mom's house for similar savings. Easy to install if you already have one of the basic knob controllers.
Awesome Product.I had old Hunter PC-400i. Replace and install very easy, it takes less than 5 min with testing all zones.App quality is superior. You don't need physical rain sensor. App automatically connected to Weather app. Wifi range is also good.It worth more than $200++
Excellent product. Easy to program with their App and fairly easy to installHowever, if you are replacing an existing non-smart Hunter controller and trying to attach it to your house you will have to remove all the internal mechanisms to get to the upper left-hand corner of the controller housing to attach it to your house. A very poor design, which couldve been easily remedied.
I was skeptical about the extra cost of paying for the hunter over a cheap orbit or similar system, but I have to say, after using this system for a while, it is well worth the money. The app has worked flawlessly; the zones were easy to set up, modify, and program, and some of the accessories have made this a great investment. While the other cheap controllers will do most of the same things, this one will do more, easier.
Pros:* The concept is great - being able to control the sprinklers and the watering schedule remotely using an app is a lawn-saver if you travel over the summer.* I installed as an upgrade from an older Hunter controller and it was not terribly difficult.* I had a good customer service experience with them (a few years back)Cons:* IMHO, the app user interface is not intuitive. It can be very confusing figuring out even basic use cases like manually start/stop a zone, see what days it actually watered (or suspended) from last week/month, test the live connection to the controller, find your contractor and authorize their connection, etc..* The app can lose contact with the controller and give false information (like showing it as watering when it is not).
Great replacement option if you have a dates Hunter system. Was able to plug and play and reset up zones within 30min.Be sure to take a picture of old wire setup and label like colors with a small piece of tape so you don't lose track of zones when you go through the installation process.
I've decided to renovate my lawn, aka "carpet of weeds" this summer. I live in Texas, we haven't seen rain in several months and have been in triple digit heat for the same amount of time. I knew that introducing different amendments, fertilizers, etc. will require better irrigation control than having to go to the wall unit and manually start the zones I needed. I'm a female with no background in electrical wiring, irrigation systems or anything of that nature. I was able to easily take down my old Hunter unit, make some adjustments to fit the new one, and rewire this one in place. One thing I must say for the ones worried about connectivity. I have the worst to none connection in that particular spot where my control panel resides. That goes for both my wireless internet and cell signal. If I move to that area my calls get dropped and I'm not able to browse internet using my wifi. The new control station did tell me there is weak signal BUT I have no issues running any programs from the phone app. I was 99% sure I will have connectivity issues. Blown away by this feature alone. Now I can run whatever zones I want, at whatever time I need, from wherever I am.Be aware that this unit only comes with 1 module enough for 4 zones. If you have more you will need to buy additional expantion modules . I found that 6 zone module will not fit directly next to the one that came with the unit. It basically creates a gap for zones 5,6,7 and fits into the slot from 8 and on. May not be a big deal for some, but whoever originally wired my first unit left no slack on the wires. That extra 1.5'' gap was a problem for me because my wires were not reaching all the way up to the next module. I had to have mine stacked in order from bottom up to make this work. If your wires are long enough, a 6 zone module is cheaper than buying multiples of 3, you'd just have to reassign the numbers.I can't recommend this product enough.
