Just get it - worth it

I'm going to be replacing Sprinkler spray nozzles with MP rotators. But I did not want to go back and forth switching to on and off. My house is made of block and stucco. It took me 30 minutes to install it. I tested it first by going to farthest location to make sure it works before doing any other work. After confirming I went to 4 different locations throughout the house and it.

WORKS GREAT w old ICC Hunter Controller!

I have a 20+ year old ICC Hunter controller for my sprinkler system, which is still in phenomenal shape (it's housed inside my garage.) I have 11 zones and when set through the controller, it works as set. About six months ago my remote that came with it (SRR) quit working. Through trial and error found out it was the receiver that quit working properly. Called Hunter and Matthew correctly told me that this Hunter Roam receiver-remote duo would work if my wiring was still good. I knew wiring was good because the receiver beeped four times when plugged in but when I tried to connect the addresses it wouldn't beep the four times again, as it was supposed to when "connected" to each other. Amazon price for the Roam setup: $201.93 plus tax and as they say in the instructions it worked right out of the box! Of course that means you have to put the 4 AAA batteries supplied, in the remote. I am very pleased. Thank you Amazon & thank you Hunter Irrigation Systems for making interchangeable parts to these great sprinkler systems.

Great Labor Saving Device

This remote control setup has saved me a ton of effort. I no longer need to run to the garage every time to turn-on or turn-off the sprinkler system to check whether my repairs or adjustments are working properly.

Fantastic! Worth the money!!!

I have a 12 zone Hunter controlled sprinkler system irrigating my yard. The system control unit is mounted in the inside front of one of my garages. Historically, checking the system for leaks and conducting repairs amounted to either a two man job (one working control unit and one working the yard) to advance zones and manage on/off or required running back and forth to the garage to manage. This was time consuming and downright annoying. This remote unit has changed my life!! It works like a charm. With clear instructions on how to install, once the transmitter was wired into my control unit and included batteries were placed into the receiver, I was immediately able to turn on my first zone remotely. I tested all zones even from the back corner of my property. The system worked flawlessly. Honestly, the range of the wireless remote exceeded my expectations. It worked through the garage walls and was unincumbered by any of my home structures, landscaping, and hardwoods.I mounted the transmitter directly to my Hunter control unit. My unit had a round cut out portal that almost appeared to be made to house the transmitter's plug in port. Once I drilled out the hole, I was able to easily screw the port into the plastic of the system control unit. The transmitter plugged in easily and now sits vertically alongside the outside of the system control unit box. It looks clean, fits well, and transmits perfectly. The construction of this equipment is also impressive. The remote has good weight to it and both the remote and transmitter are made of high quality plastic and materials. Not sure of battery life yet, but it appears to be solid. The package comes with 4 AAA batteries that are working just fine for now. It also has a battery level indicator once powered on, so you can keep track of remaining power.I now can manage my irrigation as a one man job with complete command over every zone. My only issue is why I didn't purchase this little gem 19 years ago when we bought the house and installed the system.

Compatible Controllers

For those of you that have an older Hunter controller SRC plus, this remote works just fine right out of the box. I didn’t even have to change the wiring. I just use the old socket plugged the receiver in. I couldn’t find anything that said it was compatible with the SRC plus controller so I just want to provide this information to those who have one.

Remote works???

Troubleshooted remote, transmitter, and control box but still did not work. Remote and transmitter seem to work since it beeps, but will not turn on sprinklers. My control box is only 5 yrs old, so still deciding if I want to return remote or spend more money to buy another control box hoping it works.

Added new life to my sprinkler system.

33 zones are a lot to manage when you cannot be in a zone and at the box at the same time. I was concerned about range as we're in a stucco home with a metal roof, and I have zones all around, including a couple 600 feet away at the road. We have had no problems and the investment has saved us many times it’s cost.

Saves Time!

Saves time AND energy....hiking up & down our hill to turn on to check, turn off, fix, turn on again. Makes it much easier to check & fix the system. The long range is makes it easy to turn on different valves from the house, too.Only criticism is the interface.....should have icons for where you are in the program, what thenumbers mean. Not intuitive as is.

Hunter controller remote control (on/off only) works good.

Hunter ROAM controller. First one did not work, replacement works great. It only turns water on & off no controller programming allowed.

A must have if you maintain you own drip system. Mounting the transmitter is weird.

I love this device. If you maintain your own drips, you know the drill: 1) install/repair a drip 2) walk back to the control box to turn on the water 3) walk back to the drip and verify it's working 4) walk back to the control box to shut off the water. 5) repeat as needed. Having a remote saves a lot of time and having to get repeatedly up and down on the ground which is hard for some of us.The kit comes with the hand held transmitter, a similar sized receiver that wires into your systems control box, and some mounting hardware for the recveiver. The handheld communicates easily with the supplied transmitter which for my property is a maximum distance around 150 feet.Mounting the receiver is weird. The kit ships with a PVC "L" tube which the installation instructions would have you splice in to the conduit that holds the wires running from the valves to the control box. This would let you run the wires from the transmitter for a neat looking installation, but I didn't want to get involved with cutting PVC for cosmetic reasons. The kit used to ship with an alternative bracket that just screws to the wall to hold the transmitter and then you neaten up the wires as you see fit. The kit doesn't come with this alternate bracket, and they don't make it any more. I ended up making my own bracket.

Ease of Use

Had an older Model Remote with short range. Upgraded to this and have been happy with its use. I wish this had more features to address the controller than just On and Off like being able to key in a zone. I have 30 zones and scrolling is a chore.

Fantastic remote

Fantastic remote and works perfectly. Easy to use and saves a ton of time when turning on your sprinkler in the spring or shutting down in the fall. You can go zone by zone and check all the sprinkler heads without having to run back and forth to the controller. Also great if you just want to run one zone that is particularly exposed to the sun at the end of the day without having to set up a program in your controller. The only challenge as other reviews noted is that it does not come with all you need to mount the receiver. There are several videos on YouTube that show you some options and there are other options in the Amazon reviews. I did not want to rewire the whole controller box to mount it on the pvc that comes out of the bottom. I opted to mount it on the top of the box which made the wiring easy and also put it in a better position for reception. I made sure to put a rubber gasket on the mount to help with water getting in the controller. Overall a great product.

Outdoor Mounting

This product works well as advertised. You can start individual stations, programs and run times. Of course, you don't have remote access to all of the programming as you do at the controller panel. The manufacturer states that the receiver is not made to be mounted permanently outdoors. I have put the receiver in a waterproof plastic case which has a silicone rubber seal as shown in the pictures. The signal is strong enough for me to use the remote from inside the house. So far, so good.

Works great! Would have been 5-stars... except

1. No mounting hardware for the receiver included. The instructions suggest using a threaded PVC "T". Also suggests Hunter P/N 258200 mounting bracket. Neither included nor any other mounting hardware. The receiver MUST be mounted somewhere, so why not include a way to mount it... even if you have to charge $1 more? I know, a PVC "T" is inexpensive. But I still had to drive to HD to get one plus had to buy brackets to attach the PVC to the garage wall.2. 3, long loose wires on the Smart-Port connector.... untidy, sloppy, lame... if you end up mounting the receiver somewhere besides on the PVC conduit for the controller wires. (Within the allowed 6-ft from the controller, of course.) Should have had a sheath to keep them neatly together.Operation of the remote didn't seem intuitive, and I didn't think the instructions were as helpful as they could be... so I had to fumble with it for a bit. So... here's a quick summary to get you started.1. When transmitter powers on (Mode button), it comes up on the "active station"... which is the last one you ran before you turned it off. (When started for the first time, defaults a "Station 1, Pgm A")2. Next, hit the Mode button 2 times to bring up the setting for "number of stations". That's the number of stations this controller is going to operate. If you have 6 stations, select "6" and then hit no buttons for 10 seconds until the screen changes.3. Now you can scroll (up/dn arrows) your station numbers and program letters. They will be 1-2-3-4-5-6, PgmA, PgmB, PgmC. You can also scroll the opposite direction.4. When a station is running, you do not need to hit the "off" button (left arrow) before advancing to the next station. Just select the station/program you want next and hit the "on" button (right arrow). The prior station will turn itself off before the newly selected station starts. In spite of my annoyance about Hunter "cheaping out" by not including mounting hardware and not sheathing the wiring for the SmartPort, this is a 5-star device. RECOMMENDED!(My neighbor has a 24-station sprinkler system. I told him, "you should get one of these".

Awesome Remote, Easy Set Up, Incredible Range, Great Value, Buy It !!!

I have a Hu tee Pro C with the old style remote control set up. It worked, but the range of the remote was truly terrible. I read about this Humter remote set up, and based on all of the solid reviews decided to give it a shot. I am so happy I purchased the ROAM KIT. Awesome in every regard from ease of set up, to using the remote. The remote comes set up so that stations run a 2 minute program as a default, but you can easily increase the run time from the remote. The changes you make to the run to,e from the remote will not change the run times programmed on your controller set up. Finally the range..A+++..I can now control my zones from the furthest outside corners of my yard, front and back, without any issues, So very pleased with this unit, and you will be too.

Wish I'd had it ten years ago.

As others have said: how did I get along without it all these years. I'd always dreaded having to go out and check the sprinklers. Inevitably, there are a few that need adjusting and/or replacing and...you know the drill...turn on a station, walk around the yard, find the malfunction, walk back to the controller, turn it off, back to the sprinkler, fix it, walk back, turn it on, not quite right, back again, off, back readjust, back on -- I'm exhausted just describing it. Now I just clip this remote to my belt, check out my stations one by one, fix any problems, go for a bike ride. In years past I hated the thought of even checking my irrigation system, knowing that if there was a problem, I was looking at half a day wandering around my yard. Now? No biggie. Just get 'er done. My only cavil, and it's pretty minor, is that the buttons could be more clearly marked. It's not entirely intuitive that, e.g., the little button with the square is the "mode" button or what it does, or what, exactly the up and down arrows are for. But play with it a bit and it all comes clear. Oh, and you don't need a Ph.D to install it, just a hacksaw (for cutting your PVC to attach the Smart Port) and a screwdriver to connect the low voltage leads. You can find helpful how-to videos on YouTube.
